Midsummer in Sweden

So this photo is taken the night before midsummer. It is 9.30 in the evening and I have not altered the picture at all. So serene and beautiful, but I'm asking myself if the long winters are worth it. I haven't
got the answer but I'm enjoying the summer. Staying up late sewing actually

What have I've been up to when I havent been here

As you probably noticed I've been neglecting my dear blog. All for good reasons I might add since the work have just been rolling in. That is the problem with freelancing and just wanting to do lots of stuff  you just can't get a balance. So I have been dying fabrics...

When I moved back to Sweden after years in London I just had to bring my Burco boiler.
This was the first time I used it for work and I couldnt have done the job without it. My version looks like stonage compared to the new one I realise but it still works.
The fabrics where dyed to become shirts for a musical at Malmö Opera house. The show, Les Miserable will open in september.

My lamp project that I've written about in this blog earlier turned into an exhibition along with some of my other textiles and together with a ceramist , Annika Sonntag we laid a table with our creations and my lamps above it.

Got into outdoor cooking in a big way. Specially my own grown vegetables. The vegetable patch was the part of the garden I enjoyed the most in the garden this summer.

.
Made some more costumes and meet some very nice people at the same time. Here are  two videos
from the production. It's all in swedish I'm afraid..

I did go to the beach as well but next summer I will I will spend more time here.

The beach at our summerhouse in Åhus.

Great door.Getting ready for the outdoor life with Pyramid Washbag. Marianne Wie has photographed
for VillaPernilla some great shoots .
Saw this outfit in a shopwindow in Malmö. The snackbags come in handy for a picknick. Hoping for a great weekend. We are going to be outdoors sweeping away winter in the garden and getting the summerhouse ready for visitors and summerfun.

National clothes swapping day, klädbytardagen

Getting ready for a day out!
Today was clothes swapping day here in Sweden. Organised by Naturskyddsföreningen. I managed to find a kid loppis (jumble sale style) and got some goodies. To get into the spirit of the day I got  Leon dressed up in an old shirt that used to belong to my sister from around  1965. It is a Finnish label called kii-kii. Tried google it to find out more about it but nothing matched it on the first few pages. . If you want to arrange your own swap day there are some websites around to look at. I found an old mumin troll book in very good conditon for 10 crowns and some summer t-shirts and Leon bought himself a Lego police motorbike that got covered in chocolate on the way home. Very pleased with the day. Then to top it off I finally managed to get the sign up that lets the rest of the world know where I am. It is not Google Earth or anything. It is an old fashioned road sign pointing to my studio. We got on our bikes while lighting the first barberque of the year and put the sign up.

Now visitors, deliveries and customers will find me more easily and maybe even the locals! Then Leon pointed out the moon as he always does and me and him tried to get it in a photo.

Fat Tuesday!

Picture is from my local cafe in Berga
Today is Pancake day or Fat Tuesday as we say in Sweden. The day when we scoff this cake called Semla. A sturdy bun with lots of whipped cream and a middle filled with an almond paste. The season for eating semla has been stretched out and now you see them in the shops just a few days after Christmas. I'm not going to be the judge and say that that kind frivolous  semla eating should be banned but at the same time this special day is not so special any more. I wont be eating semla today .Not after discovering this local cafe and visiting a few times to many . There is also a junkshop/ antique shop so it's perfect for a lazy sunday trip.

Todays adventure

I went on a little adventure today as I was driving to return some hats back to a fab lady . I could have choosen the main road , it would have been the sensible choice considering the road conditions at the moment but then I would have missed all this.
I saw this old truck in the summer and I thought it would make a great background for a photoshoot. Imagine a whole load of kids playing on the truck and waving their arms about. Then I drove past it today and it looks just great with all the snow on it. I love that padded layer that the snow gives all the shapes.

I kept stopping to take photos because everything looked so good but then everytime I started the car again it was just spinning around in the snow and I was really out in nowhere.. Then three deers jumped out in front of the car and it got really exciting for a while. Drove past the lake that we swam in when it was a heatwave this summer. Today it looked like Siberia. It was great to be back at home after that little excursion.
